Charmolypi is a Greek word that refers to the joy that emerges out of the middle of sadness, but also the way around: the sadness that merges out of joy. Charmolypi is an integrated (not mixed) feeling that cannot exist without both sorrow and joy, dwelling together and giving rise to each other. To cut it short: Charmolypi is a joyful sadness.

Charmolypi is the most common sentiment in the music tradition of Mediterranean and Balkan countries. And if we apply it to taste, our palate will recognize it as bittersweet.

Charmolypi is dining experience created by Bosnian-Greek-Istanbuli culinary duo Nikolina Skenderija and Andreas Karagiannis. It is an expression of our different cultures through the food, wine, music, and stories, served along very large communal table, next to the open kitchen. Our purpose is to create harmony- the essence of the word charmolypi.
